Nowadays, everyone is imprisoned by procrastination. I also went through this phase and did not know what to do. After watching, Ali Abdaal’s guide to combat procrastination, I formalized a method to help me. It consists of general tools and a simple rule. Check it out,

  1. Calendar:-

If you have a problem not remembering what due dates you have, on what days you have meetings, etc. Then this is the best way to have all your deadlines, important dates, and meetings in one place. You got a meeting next week; note it down in your calendar. When you next have a meeting or a friend calls you out for a hangout, check your calendar and see your availability. This will help you manage things a lot and arrange your important meetings and deadlines in one place. Moreover, by using a calendar, you can plan your whole day and work per your schedule. You can use various apps such as calendars, Google Calendars, Apple Calendar, or any calendar app you love. It can be a productivity planner for you.

  1. To-do-list:-

Having a to-do list is not a problem in an era where we are preoccupied with more than one task and work. Suppose you are currently working on a project and have to attend a meeting for it. Then note it down on your to-do list. Similarly, you can add tasks to do in your list at night. So you can see it in the morning before leaving for work. This will act as a reminder and help you organize your life productively. Any to-do-list app can help you in this regard. The most important thing is making a list. I used to add things to my list at night, and then watch it in the morning. This helps me to remind everything. Moreover, it also helps me not miss any important tasks of the day.

  1. Dividing the tasks:-

In Rules for the Direction of Mind (written in 1628 and published in 1701), Descartes urges that it is better to divide a problem into its simplest parts. For example, you have to write an essay of 2500 words. It is seemingly an impossible task. Because you are already suffering from procrastination and don’t want to work. But the deadline is of tomorrow. You have a whole day for it and decide to divide it into the simplest parts. The task is divided into three parts, 1) deciding the outline, 2) writing the essential part, and 3) proofreading and editing. Now, in these simple parts, you will complete your task. The deadline will no longer affect you, and you have cured the procrastination. So, next time you are going through procrastination, you have an essential task to do. Try using this simple rule and get your task done.

These are three simple ways and techniques by which you can overcome procrastination. Moreover, you will have a simple and minimalist lifestyle with it. Happy productivity.
